The Pelvic Thrusts have built their performance on the original 1970s legacy, inheriting everything the Rocky Horror Picture Show stands for whilst paying homage to the quirks of the Melbourne theatre scene. Every sentence, word, song and dance is accompanied by an audience participation version which ranges from political slurs, suggestive dances and absolute insanity. The cast prides themselves in creating the very best extravagantly dazzling costumes their sweet little brains can conjure up, encouraging every single audience member to show some of their own gaudiness in whatever way they please. Rocky Horror at the Astor is the perfect night to strap on some fishnets, heels and that sparkling corset you’ve been wondering “when will I ever wear this!?.” There are prizes for those who come in the most lurid and flamboyant outfits, as well as the 1970s authentic ‘virgin initiation’ which takes those who are fresh faced to Rocky Horror at the Astor and covers them in lipstick and glitter. The cast is made up of real-life paramedics, contortionists, archaeologists, lawyers and theatre managers who use these nights as a way to release their inner immoral ostentatiousness. Enter the weird and wonderful as newly engaged couple Brad and Janet encounter a problem when their car halts in the rain. They both look for contact, only to find themselves at the castle of Dr. Frank-N-Furter, a transvestite. A place to stay is offered, but will Brad and Janet want to remain there? Especially when a large group of Transylvanians dance to the ‘Time Warp’, Dr. Frank-N-Furter builds his own man and a whole host of participation for the audience to enjoy.
