Last Year at Marienbad, Alain Resnais 1961

Hidden Mirror is an old style Salon where people get together, talk, share ideas, drink wine or herbal tea alongside a shared antipasto platter. This takes place every Thursday night in Balaclava. We screen a film too as a pivotal part of the evening’s fare. This week the film is Alain Resnais’ acclaimed, Last Year at Marienbad. An early masterpiece of the French New Wave, Resnais tells a story of love, dislocation and denial where people parade in and out of each other’s reflections of reality manicured in exquisite black and white slices of Apollonian chill. This is Resnais at his finest.
