Jazzy Jeudi – Leila Negrau – 1 Feb 2018

To welcome in the first Jazzy Jeudi of 2018 the Alliance Française is proud to present Leïla Négrau with Judex Rose on guitar, Alexander Nettlebeck on piano and Conrad Henderson on bass. Singer-percussionist Leïla Négrau hails from the Réunion Island and brings with her an eclectic mix of musical culture. She combines South American, rock and African rhythms with the traditional Maloya music from the Réunion, which she describes as ‘blues from the Indian Ocean’ having its origins in the music of the former slaves on the island. For Jazzy Jeudi, Leila will present her most Afro-jazz compositions along with some standards arranged for traditional Maloya instruments including ‘Summertime’, ‘Stormy Weather’ or ‘My Funny Valentine’.
