MY ST KILDA ARTS TOURISM ACCOUNT
Tim Hulsman is a rare and vulnerable performer who opens his heart and mind and bares his soul, through beautiful, evocative and dynamic music. He narrates an autobiographical journey through his rollercoaster-life, filled with positive imagery and pearls of wisdom.
Exiled from his Jehovah’s Witness family at the age of 17, for choosing to follow the path of music rather than religion, his songs exuded a defiant passion for self belief and distain for social injustice.
“World Class…” Neesy Smith – Now & Then Radio Show, 3MDR, Australia
“It’s rare to encounter a young musician with something substantial to say…There’s soul behind his music.” Martin Jones – Rhythms Magazine.
“Hulsman’s voice isn’t polished – but this isn’t a ‘singer’s’ album, it’s a storytellers album.” Jolene: The Country Music Blog
2014 – 2015 saw Tim touring nationally and appearing at music festivals to promote his new album, Dead Man’s Garden. In July 2014 “Dead Man’s Garden” debuted at 18 on the Australian Blues and Roots Airplay Charts on the back of a full tour schedule, playing live shows and many radio interviews and live-to-air performances.
Now with the addition of Winston Galea on drums and Craig Kelly on upright bass Tim’s live shows have soared to a new level of grit and power, to back the raw emotion and depth of his songwriting.
The Tim Hulsman Trio has been touring interstate during 2017 to steadily increasing crowds and critical acclaim for their live show.
Tim was awarded the Inaugural Alex Legg Memorial Foundation Scholarship 2015 -16, for excellence in song writing, stagecraft and artistic vision.
His latest album “Get Loved” is a melting pot of his favourite music influences distilled into a distinctive sound and style of his own, with complex melodies, emotive lyrics, beautifully dynamic sounds and a unique roots/pop sensibility
