NZ’s Sawmill Brewery showcase

July 14, 2017 @ 3:00 PM

Award winning Sawmill Brewery is coming to Australia!
Located one hour north of Auckland in Matakana, Sawmill is an independent, New Zealand owned brewery run by a small and talented team.
We will be showcasing x4 of their outstanding beers on tap for the first time in the country, and we cannot wait to try their froths!

IPA / 5.8%
Pale golden colour with a foamy white head. Light biscuity malt notes carry the hops. A mix of American Citra and NZ Cascade hops give the beer a bright and vibrant citrus burst. Crisp and drinkable. Lower in alcohol than most IPAs

Session IPA / 3.7%
Lively, balanced and generous. This session ale packs it into 3.7% with tropical fruit aromas, sweet malt and full hop character

1K Belgian Red Ale / 6.0%
For our GABS 2017 festival brew we have created a rich Belgian red ale which has been combined with locally foraged ingredients from our locality in Matakana. We have used a combination of native Kawakawa leaves, sea water, and manuka smoked malt to add complexity and additional depth to the base beer. The result is a beer which gives lush aromas of banana, stonefruit, bubblegum, and spice, followed on the taste with a slightly sweet malt profile which is cleansed from the palate with distinct saltiness from the seawater.

Mandarin Saison / 5.6%
A Belgian style pale farmhouse beer fermented with a duo of yeast strains, hopped with citrussy hops, and fermented with 30kg of locally grown Satsuma mandarins. This beer is part of our search to include local fruits, herbs, and spices into our small batch range of beers, and in this case we sourced some small, sweet mandarins picked for their concentration of flavour. These fruit were macerated and added whole to the fermenting beer, a farmhouse or saison style beer picked for its earthy/citrussy/spicy character contributed by the yeast strains used. The resulting beer gives an aromatically punchy combination of citrus fruit, pepper, and aniseed, which follows onto the taste which finishes spicy and slightly tart
