Jazzy Jeudi November – Duo Philippe Guidat & Pascal Rollando

This November, Jazzy Jeudi is delighted to welcome to the stage French duo Phillippe Guidat and Pascal Rollando. The pair have been invited to Australia for the Wangaratta Jazz Festival and will present a new project which connects the natural acoustic characteristics of their instruments: guitar and percussion.

Philippe Guidat and Pascal Rollando began collaborating together in the spring of 2014, after a fortuitous encounter and a conversation about musical aesthetics. Pascal Rollondo is a renowned musician within his musical universe (working with the likes of Bernardo Sandoval, Renaud Garcia Fons, and Serge Lopez) who Philippe Guidat had listened to and admired for many years.

Wanting to respect the character and the language of their instruments, their influence mainly comes from the Mediterranean basin, but is also inspired by jazz and contemporary music. The rhythms, modes and harmonies often make reference to specific styles (flamenco, and Andalusian classical for example) while transforming and adapting these influences to produce something musically creative.

Using conventional techniques, personal explorations and experimentations, the musicians take the audience on a voyage to an imaginary world where they experience a wide range of sounds, tones, atmospheres and accents, from Spain to India.
