BPM in conversation

March 2, 2018 @ 6:30 PM - 8:30 PM

ACMI AND THE ALLIANCE FRANÇAISE FRENCH FILM FESTIVAL PRESENT: BPM in conversation

Join author Christos Tsiolkas for a conversation about queer activism and the HIV epidemic with BPM’s co-writer, academic and activist Philippe Mangeot.

Philippe Mangeot co-wrote the 2017 Cannes Grand Jury Prize-winning film BPM, which will screen in the inaugural LGBTQI program at the 2018 Alliance Francaise French Film Festival. He was a member and former president of Act Up-Paris, a militant association fighting against AIDs, and in 1997 he founded the journal Vacarme, where he was editor-in-chief 1999-2004. He is now a member of its editorial board. He also regularly contributes to Cahiers du cinéma.

Christos Tsiolkas is the Australian bestselling author of Barracuda, Dead Europe and The Slap.

The talk will be a unique opportunity to hear about the maelstrom of 90s AIDS activism in Paris, which forms the context for BPM.
