Catherine’s Studio is located at the rear of 13 Grey Street, St Kilda. She is opening her Studio during the Crawl Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 10am to 4pm.

French-born, I studied art in Paris before embarking on a successful career in advertising in the UK. After 11 years in the UK, I moved to Australia in 2004 and have been living in Melbourne since. I have had solo and group shows in France, England and Australia and my work is represented in private collections in the Europe, North and South America, Asia and Australia.
My work concentrates on powerful, emotional moments in time – human snapshots. Through very energetic and sensual strokes, I express my love of paint and colour, celebrating people and emotions.
Joy, pain, passion, happiness, reflection, intensity, restlessness – I celebrate it all with a fury of colours that fuse, clash, appear and disappear, in a dance that I would relate to the volatility of our emotions, which I endlessly explore. I find the infinite possibilities of colour combination as fascinating as the palette of emotions human beings can display and I strive to convey both in my work.

The Chief Artist and Maker
Creating is like breathing – or eating – to me. It’s part of my life-sustaining sustenance. Coupled with an insatiable appetite for learning and fascination with human nature, my creativity has had many flavours over the years. There was felt finger puppets with obligatory googly eyes at four; an obsession with life- through-the-lens from eleven (that continues today); a dalliance with the written arts in my early twenties and a long-standing fascination with manipulating fabric, fibres and paper.
This constant learning, observation and experimentation – the “What happens if….?” – has led into the work you’ll see here at Textured Life.
While I still like to experiment with the ‘how’, my current explorations are leading me into pure emotion; not the “What did it look like?” but “What did it feel like?”. A challenge no doubt, but one I’m relishing.
I’m currently working on a series called “Shorelines” – an expression of that beautiful space where different elements meet each other and interact; where they meet and create a whole new form together. Liquid and fluid yet still bound by the tick tock clock, forms and laws of Mother Nature.
